Metroid - Wata 9.6 A+ Sealed [Oval, Rev-A, TM, 1987] NES Nintendo 1987

-SOLD OUT-

Crisp and clean for the assigned grade, this is a stunning sealed copy of this legendary title for the NES. Boasting a nice taut A+ WATA rated seal that has no distracting marks or blemishes, this is among the finest known copies of Metroid to exist. In fact, according to the most recent WATA population report released in August 2022 this copy is tied for the finest numerical grade of any copy graded at WATA, with the exception of a single 9.8 graded "Classic Series" rerelease copy.

With no 9.6 copies of this variant sold in over two years, a 9.4 copy bringing $12,600 in September 2022 and an earlier print hangtab variant in 9.4 bringing $168,000 in April of 2022, this copy is well priced at $17,500.

Approaching museum quality, and not to be missed!

Metroid (NES)

A classic in every sense of the word, this first entry in the Metroid series was released for the Nintendo console in 1987. Metroid was a pioneer in the genre that we now affectionately refer to as “Metroidvania,” where players explore and find power-ups to reach previously inaccessible areas of the game map. Both a critical and commercial success, Metroid was one of the best selling and most highly rated titles for the NES console. A favorite of speedrunners as well, the original Metroid has been rereleased multiple times and has spawned over a dozen sequels.

Collecting Metroid titles almost always begins with the 1987 NES original, whose iconic gray box features multiple different variants including a first print hangtab variety. Sealed copies can range from a few thousand dollars for a lower grade later print, all the way up to six figures with a sealed early print bringing a whopping $168,000 in auction in 2022. There’s no wrong way to collect Metroid as this title fits well into standalone Metroid collections, “best of” Nintendo collections, or simply a collection of some of the greatest video games ever made.

Payment via check or bank wire is required for all games over $10,000. A 2.5% surcharge applies if paid for by credit card or Paypal.
